Indians learn English as a secondary language, as far as the school curriculum is concerned. Therefore it is natural to have some problems when writing for a foreign company. The common SEO writing problems focus on failure to comprehend the public demand, writing keyword-rich articles, addressing problems and so on. But the major problem with the lot is spelling and grammatical errors. This article discusses the five most common grammatical errors:

• The most common mistake is inappropriate use of commas.  According to most grammar reference guides, use of comma is not necessary after the last item in a list, unless it incorporates more than three items. Many Indian writers make unnecessary use of comma after ‘and ‘. For instance, it is incorrect to write as “bread, butter, and jam”. In the same way, comma is used while writing a compound sentence.  In case of compound sentences, each sentence has its own significance as a separate sentence. As such, a comma works is necessary to divide two or more sentences. Same mistake is done while using introductory phrases like’ after, however,” and so on.

• Another oft repeated error with Indian writers occurs in identifying correct subject-verb agreement in a sentence.  Often mistakes are done in verbs usage (commonly those that signify singular or plurality) Often Indian writers choose plural verbs to modify words like each and every.

•  Wrong pronoun usage is another common mistake. For example, it is incorrect if you say: “everyone of this class are good student.” in such case, the word ‘are’ will be replaced by ‘is’.  Often, possessive pronouns are followed by apostrophes, such as ‘hers, ‘theirs’ etc. it is a wrong grammar all the way.

• Most Indian writers get confused between “your “and “you’re”. The first is a possessive pronoun while the latter denotes “you are”.

• Often ‘that’ and ‘which’ are used inappropriately. ‘That’ is used to introduce restrictive clauses, and so it is an important part of a sentence. on the other hand,’which’ is recognized for non-restrictive clause usage. It is not crucial part of a sentence like the previous one. Often mistakes are done to place these two words.
