SEO Strategy Post Bing: Has There Been Any Changes?

There is nothing permanent except change —this rule seems to be true for the SEO world as well. Till now Google was the only entity to reckon in the search engine market. However with Microsoft coming up with their new search engine, Bing, Google is likely to face a tough competition. Many internet users are believed to have shifted their loyalty to this new search engine. Does this mean that webmasters should now use a new SEO strategy? We try to take a look at certain facts…

Initial reviews show that the search engine optimization technique for Bing is more or less similar to that of the Google. In fact both these have similar likes and dislikes. For instance Google and Bing prefer certain common items like relevant links, quality content etc. They dislike spam and deception.

Interestingly however a search operation performed in Google and Bing will not get you similar results. So how can the SEO technique in both these search engines be the same? Well the answer is simple! The basic difference between both these search engines is the process of presentation of search results and not in the process to decide quality relevant content. A salient feature of Bing is that the results are categorized here. Also, there is a explore pane that corresponds to these categories. This does not happen with Google where all the search results are presented all together.

Microsoft has also changed the sitemap size limit from ten thousand URLs to fifty thousand URLs. Now, to keep up to that, Google too, is coming up with fifty thousand child sitemaps. These however seem to be changes that are not too significant. The emphasis is still on generating quality content. Do not have thousands of useless links; rather link to few quality sites. Update you site with fresh and relevant content and do promote your site at social forums.

Remember with Bing all you have to do is to find out what category in the SERP is your bull’s eye and emphasis on that with the keywords. Here, the target is not to be on the top of the list, rather to be on the top of the category where you want to be. With quality content, relevant links and effective keywords you can achieve that. Interestingly, these are just the things that you want to have a good ranking in Google.
